The Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District own and operates there hospitals:  Oulu university hospital, Oulaskangas hospital and Visala hospital.

Oulu university hospital (OUH) delivers specialized health care to the Northern Ostrobothnia and provides highly specialized medical services to the entire northern Finland. All medical specialities are represented in OUH. Oulaskangas hospital is specialized in otorhinolaryngology, pulmonary diseases, surgery, anesthesiology,  paediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology. Visala Hospital specializes in adult psychiatry.
