VISITORS

Visits

We feel that visitors are importnat to our patients, and most wards have unrestricted visiting hours. However, visits to the maternity wards 13 and 14 are limited only to close relatives (father of the newborn, siblings, grandparents) between 17.30-19.00 on weekdays (mon-fri) and on weekends (sat-sun) between 13.00-15.00 and 17.30-19.00.

Outsiders may not stay in the hospital premises between 19.00 - 7.00 due to security reasons, unless agreed upon with staff members.

Here are a few guidelines and recommendations:

  • only 1-2 visitors per patient at a time and no visits if the patient has undergone surgery on that day
  • leave your coats and outerwear in the lobby lockers
  • no smoking on hospital premises

Due to a danger of infection, a person suffering from a cold, cough or flu should not visit the hospital. Family members and friends who have been exposed to any contagious diseases should not visit the hospital.

Gifts

Magazines and books are welcome as gifts. Consult the staff before bringing flowers or food, because flowers may cause allergic reactions and the patient may be on a special diet. No gifts are allowed at the intensive care unit. If you wish to bring a gift to a child at the paediatrics unit, please consult the nurses and give the gift, labelled with the child’s name, to the staff.

Patient inquiries

Patient information is only given by patient’s consent. If a patient is unable to give consent due to medical reasons, patient information is only given to close relatives and next of kins. We recommend that the relatives handle patient inquiries via a contact person, who may forward patient information to other family members.

You may find hospital contact information from the OUKA phonebook (under ”Oulun yliopistollinen sairaala”). If you do not know the location or the direct phone number for the patient, please contact the hospital switchboard (see contact details).
