Medical training for a foreign medical doctor in Hospital District of Northern Ostrobothnia
If you have qualified as a doctor outside of Finland and your objective is to work as a medical doctor in Finland, please get familiarized with the instructions of Valvira about licensing your professional practice rights before contacting the hospital district. Instructions and practices differ depending on where you have qualified as a medical doctor.
Qualified in EU/EEA Member State: https://www.valvira.fi/web/en/healthcare/professional_practice_rights/qualified_in_eu_eea_member_state
Qualified outside the EU/EEA Member States: https://www.valvira.fi/web/en/healthcare/professional_practice_rights/qualified_outside_the_eu_eea_member_state
To become an independent practitioner, you must perform “medical training for a medical doctor's profession completed abroad", which can be performed at least partly in our hospital district. The units of Hospital District of Northern Ostrobothnia provide specialized care, so please find out the possibilities of practicing in primary health care as well. To be able to practice in our hospital district units, we require sufficient Finnish skills. Valvira requires level 3 of Finnish (or Swedish) in YKI language test, which can be seen as the minimum level of skills in our hospital district as well. Sufficient language skills do not guarantee a placement, but all specialties make their decisions about placements independently. Placements are restricted and, thus, they cannot be arranged for all applicants.
In the Hospital District of Northern Ostrobothnia, all applications should be sent to the International Coordinator, Elisa Mejías (elisa.mejias@ppshp.fi). Please include at least you CV, Valvira certificate of verification of your qualification and a certificate of language skills.
